Nova Gorica
Nova Gorica is the modern heart of Goriška and Slovenia’s youngest city, built after the Second World War as a modernist “city in a park”. Its story is inseparable from the border — from Europe Square, shared by Slovenia and Italy, to the Smuggling Tour and the Na šverc! exhibition at the Museum on the Border, which bring the once everyday reality of border life and smuggling to life. Above the city, Sveta Gora offers sweeping views across the region, while Kostanjevica Monastery is home to the Bourbon crypt. In 2025, this remarkable border story came full circle when Nova Gorica and Gorizia became the first borderless European Capital of Culture.
Soča Valley & Julian Alps

Trnovo–Banjšice Plateau
Wild, green and wonderfully peaceful, the Trnovo–Banjšice Plateau is a world of forests, open meadows, small villages and wide views, ideal for hiking, cycling, horse riding, paragliding and a slower escape into nature. It is especially appealing to animal lovers and horse enthusiasts: selected local farms and equestrian centres allow horse owners to spend their holiday together with their horses, with accommodation, stabling and the necessary riding infrastructure available. Far from the crowds, the plateau offers space, silence and a close connection with the landscape.

The Cross-Border Area
