Goriška. Your way

Goriška lies in western Slovenia, Goriška lies in western Slovenia, a small and varied country in the heart of Europe. Situated directly on the Italian border, it is a place where the Alps descend towards the Mediterranean and where Slavic, Romance and Germanic influences have met for centuries. This unique position has shaped its languages, traditions, architecture, cuisine and way of life, giving the region a character unlike anywhere else in Slovenia.

The landscape is just as varied as its history. From the Julian Alps, Vršič and the emerald Soča Valley, the scenery gradually changes into the vineyards of Brda and Collio, the Vipava Valley and the Karst, before opening towards the Adriatic. Mountains, rivers, wine hills, stone villages and the sea are all surprisingly close to one another.

Its position also makes Goriška an ideal starting point for exploring a much wider area. To the north lie the Julian Alps and the upper Soča Valley, to the south the Karst, the Slovenian coast and Istria, while across the border northern Italy opens towards Friuli, Trieste, Grado, Lignano and Venice.

For travellers, this means endless possibilities without spending hours on the road: hiking, cycling and rafting, wine tasting and local cuisine, castles and villages, caves and First World War heritage, or simply enjoying the slower rhythm of the countryside and the Mediterranean.

Goriška brings together mountains and sea, Slovenia and Italy, nature, culture and gastronomy — all within one remarkably diverse region. It is a place shaped by borders, languages and traditions — but also by centuries of exchange between them. Today, the cross-border character of the region is part of what makes it so distinctive.
